Today is my grandma’s 80th birthday. Doesn’t she look good for 80?! We celebrated as a family a couple of weekends ago, it was a fun time with family. We spent the afternoon at my grandma’s house which is on the Puget Sound. Everyone pitched in and brought food and we hung out on the deck soaking up the summer sunshine that happens to appear in Washington for a few days every year! I brought a fruit salad and surprised my grandma with some cupcakes that looked like a garden of wild flowers. The cupcakes were fun to make. Cyndi and Rebecca helped out on Friday night, we used a traditional white cake mix from a box and a lemon butter cream frosting that Cyndi and I had experimented with a couple of months ago.
We don’t really get to spend a lot of time together asĀ a family anymore. We used to all live within a couple cities on each other, but now we are all more spread out. I do a great job keeping in contact with my parents, but I know sometimes I forgot about keeping up with my grandparents and other family members. Today I am reminded at how important it is for me to work on keeping in touch with those who mean a lot to me but aren’t always in my everyday life due to distance.
PS – My awesome cousin Toni captured the moments, she is a great photographer and I always love to do a little plug for her business, you should check her out on facebook:

Aw I got mentioned:) Those cupcakes were some of my favorite ones!
First – that frosting sounds amazing! I love lemon!
Second – I love that your cupcakes match the tablecloth!
Cyndi, I think you’ll get mentioned a lot since you are my favorite cupcake cooking buddy!
Amy, the lemon was awesome … it’s the first time I’ve ever just thought, “I want just the frosting!”
These cupcakes are amazing! You have a great portfolio growing!
These were beautiful AND delicious. I wish I could have one right now!
